Rupianum is a modern take on the kind of beers that first got many people into craft beer: classic American pale ales and early West Coast IPAs. Deep golden in colour, it opens with aromas of lime, citrus peel, floral notes, orange marmalade, biscuit, and a subtle hint of berry. On the palate, big citrus, grapefruit, and a gentle resinous pine character sit over a medium body, giving it both freshness and a little malt depth. It leans slightly toward a more malty character than Medes Pils, while still staying highly refreshing and easy to drink in a warm climate. The finish is dry, with a firm bitterness that lingers cleanly without becoming harsh.

The name comes from the original documented Latin name for the village of Rupià: Rupianum. The beer also reflects our connection to the local landscape, using locally grown organic hops alongside modern varieties. The bird on the label is the Hoopoe, a striking bird often seen and heard around the fields and gardens of the Empordà, including our own. With its crest and wavy flight, it’s one of the birds most closely associated with home for us.
